Big T Tulip Time
By Pam Varner
Join Pam as she creates a 42" Square quilt using the Big T block with a Tulip Paper-Pieced Center.
This design centers on a 42" x 42" finished layout, a popular size for baby quilts or tabletop accents. It blends two distinct quilting techniques to achieve a professional finish:
- The Big T Block: This classic block, also known as Imperial T or Tea for Four, is traditionally made from Half Square Triangle (HST) units, making it a quick and "scrappy-friendly" choice for builders.
- Tulip Paper-Pieced Center: The heart of the quilt uses Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) to ensure razor-sharp points on the tulip design that might be difficult with traditional piecing.
Pam will focus on Precision Finishing: Keeping the paper foundation in place until the final assembly helps maintain perfectly square blocks and prevents cutting off delicate tulip points and quilting with our new Big T Westalee Template and EmbroideLee Designs.

Hi I'm Pam Varner, Westalee Design Accredited Teacher, and Owner of My Sassy Notion
I love to quilt and I love to teach. For over 15 years I have enjoyed educating sewers in various quilting methods. I also love notions. Free motion has always been a technique that I just couldn’t get. In the summer (2015), I discovered the Westalee Design by Sew Steady® ruler foot and templates. I was hooked and now I have conquered a new skill. Whenever I try something new, I spend some extra time thinking about various ways it can be taught.
Why Westalee Design Templates: “Westalee Design has given me the tools I needed to take my quilting beyond a walking foot. Each template is a starting point that encourages me to challenge my creativity.”
