Home and Hearth: A Scrappy Treasures Quilt Pattern

by Kate Quinn

Join Kate Quinn for another outstanding scrap quilting treasure with the release of her Home and Hearth scrap quilt pattern.
The “Home and Hearth” quilt pattern celebrates both classic quilting ideas and patterns and the desire to upcycle and make good use of fabric you may already have. The clean and sharp design has a strong appeal for both heritage and modern quilters alike.

This quilt will break your stash wide open to create a beautiful bed-sized quilt. This pattern uses several traditional blocks but reimagines them in a new layout to create an eye-catching framework for tons of color and patterns. The foundational elements of the quilt are Log Cabin blocks, 4-patch blocks, and a 9-patch block called Star and Chain. Snowball connector blocks help to pull the layout together.

The quilt utilizes many sizes of scraps in all colors and patterns. The light and dark background fabrics help stabilize the visual fields of the quilt with a strong organized pattern, letting all the colors of the scraps elements shine without seeming messy. Scraps from sizes from 1 ½” to 4 ½” can find their way into the quilt making this pattern a great way to use up lots of fabric that may have been sitting around waiting to be loved!

The Sew Steady patchwork tools from Westalee Design help the quilt come together quickly and easily. Half Square (HST) and Quarter Square (QST) blocks are a big part of the quilt design and are made so quickly and accurately with the Westalee Design HST and Westalee Design QST cutting templates.

The quilt is available in both King and Queen size. The center of the quilt is the same for either size. The border widths are used to create the final quilt dimensions. They can be adjusted to fit your specific mattress dimensions at your discretion.

Hi, I'm Kate Quinn

Owner of FabriKated Quilts, Sew Steady Promoted Instructor - Brand Ambassador and Westalee Design Accredited Teacher

My fascination with quilting began when I received a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt as a wedding present in 1991. The gift of a second scrappy quilt further solidified my love of fabrics and colors. I made my first quilt to celebrate the birth of my first child around 1993. I had loved quilting ever since. I love all styles and types of quilts from art to modern, from traditional pieced to applique. I also love how quilting is a connection through the ages and across generations.

In 2016, I also became a professional longarm quilter, opening FabriKated Quilts

In 2016, I was first introduced to Westalee Designs Quilting Rulers and Templates. I was instantly hooked! Rulerwork tools have helped me advance my quilting skills more that I ever dreamt possible. I am thrilled and proud to be a Sew Steady Education Ambassador and a Westalee Design Acredited Teacher. The freedom and creativity generated by these tools is so satisfying. I want to give that power to quilters everywhere.

I love sharing my passion for quilting and art, passing on a centuries old tradition, and creating beautiful items of comfort. Let’s start FabriKating your next quilt!
